K Contemporary at Intersect Aspen
July 31–August 4, 2022
Aspen Ice Garden
On the heels of the gallery’s noteworthy 2021 presentation at Untitled Art Miami Beach where it was named “Top 10 Booths” by Artsy, K Contemporary now presents a selection of works from its roster of acclaimed international artists at Intersect Aspen.
K Contemporary will spotlight new work by multi-disciplinary artist Suchitra Mattai (b. Guyana, South America) in conjunction with four concurrent museum shows of her work. Mattai’s work is an amalgamation of textile, sculpture, installation, and painting that speaks to her Indo-Caribbean heritage, the legacy of colonialism, and relationships between culture and gender roles. K Contemporary’s booth presentation is a direct reflection of the gallery’s ongoing mission to act as a catalyst for engaging discussion about the role of contemporary art in society. Mattai will join K Contemporary at their booth #B12 on Tuesday, August 2 at 1:30 pm for a moderated artist talk.
In addition to Mattai’s newest works, K Contemporary will present work by Ken Gun Min (b. Seoul, South Korea), Viktor Frešo (b. Bratislava, Slovakia), Mychaelyn Michalec (b. USA), and Angel Ricardo Ricardo Rios (b. Havana, Cuba).
Since its inception, K Contemporary has made a name for itself by recontextualizing and informing the dialogue around how we experience art. This artist-centric gallery focuses on contemporary and conceptual art informed by historical context while providing its patrons with engaging exhibitions, pop-ups, art interventions, and art fairs. In the years since opening the gallery, owner Doug Kacena has facilitated exhibitions at major institutions like Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Denver Art Museum, and internationally recognized events like the Sharjah Biennial and Biennial of the Americas.
While rotating gallery exhibitions are a big part of K Contemporary’s presence, its most renowned displays come in the form of art interventions. K Contemporary regularly seeks out unusual locations and situations for exhibitions, like the Governor’s Residence at the Boettcher Mansion in Denver, Colorado, and the unprecedented #ArtFindsUs mobile art exhibition that roamed the streets of Denver, Boulder, and surrounding cities in quarantine during the international pandemic, and a partnership with the Biennial of the Americas.
