Gabriele Galimberti: The Ameriguns & Toy Stories
artist reception: April 12, 6-9 pm
Renowned photographer Gabriele Galimberti’s first exhibition in the US, titled The Ameriguns and Toy Stories, will be showcased at Lydia Street Gallery.
The portraits in both series capture people’s love and pride in their collections, despite the striking contrast between the subjects of gun culture and inequalities faced by children. Initially commissioned by National Geographic, The exhibition The Ameriguns has gained international recognition and is particularly appropriate for its exhibition in Texas, known as the heart of American gun culture.
Galimberti’s photography presents a documentation rather than a critique, directing attention to a raw and charged issue. His series Toy Stories explores the influence of caretakers, socioeconomic status, and culture on children’s attachment to their possessions. Galimberti’s work has received the World Press Photo Award for his The Ameriguns series, solidifying his talent and dedication. For more information, visit his website. Additionally, those interested can schedule a limited number of portrait sessions with Galimberti during his visit to Austin from Tuscany.
