The days are getting longer and hibernation is nearing its end, which means it’s time to summon the motivation to finally put in your artist residency applications for 2024-2025.
From the foothills of the Rockies to the saguaro-spiked Borderlands, there is a treasure trove of programs designed for you to dig deep into your creative practice. Plus, we’ve included some cool grant funding opportunities to kickstart that project you’ve been dreaming of.
Don’t wait too long to make moves—some of the programs have deadlines as soon as this weekend, February 18, 2024.

Arizona Artist Residencies
2024 Namingha Institute Master Class
Flagstaff, Arizona
Near the mountains of Flagstaff, the Museum of Northern Arizona’s Namingha Institute offers a two-week residency where six selected artists will receive one-on-one education from master artists Dan Namingha (Tewa-Hopi) and his son Arlo Namingha (Tewa-Hopi). Residents will be housed in rustic cabins and will have a nearby studio space to work. The residency is open to all artists over the age of eighteen.

Stipend: $1,500 for travel and other expenses; housing provided.
Length: Two weeks from April 28 to May 11, 2024.
Saguaro National Park June 2024 Artist Residency
Tucson, Arizona
The National Park Arts Foundation will host a residency where artists will be inspired to express themselves through the imagery of the iconic Sonoran Desert. Those selected will stay in a three-bedroom home outside of the park in the heart of Tucson, with plenty of room to set up a workspace, and free access to Saguaro National Park. Artists may be asked to present their work at a local venue or virtually.
Deadline to apply: February 29, 2024.
Application fee: $60 for single artists, $120 for duos or couples, $160 for collectives/groups/families of up to five people.
Stipend: $2,000 plus any direct donations to the artist; housing provided.
Length: June 4 through June 27, 2024.
Amerind Museum Artist in Residence
Dragoon, Arizona
Indigenous visual artists, performing artists, and literary artists at the beginning of their artistic careers are encouraged to further develop their body of work at the Amerind Museum, located one hour east of Tucson. As part of the program, the selected artist will give a public lecture about their work and/or will be asked to hold open studio hours. The artist is also welcome to sell their work directly to the public.

California Artist Residencies
Stochastic Labs Residency
Berkeley, California
Stochastic Labs welcomes “antidisciplinary thinkers” to transform collective visions for the future into reality. Creatives operating across the planes of engineering, art, science, and entrepreneurship are encouraged to apply to their residency program. Selected applicants will live in a private apartment in a Victorian mansion, become part of Stochastic’s thriving creative community through weekly dinners and events, and have studio access to tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and more.

Stipend: Variable monthly stipend and a materials budget; housing provided.

Colorado Artist Residencies
Anderson Ranch Artists-in-Residence Program
Denver, Colorado
Anderson Ranch, located near Aspen, is currently accepting applications for spring 2025 residencies in ceramics, new media, photography, furniture design, woodworking, painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. The residency includes unlimited access to the studios and equipment, not to mention a beautiful setting.
Deadline to apply: February 19, 2024.
Application fee: $35.
Stipend: None, but includes free housing, studio space, and meals. Spring residents pay a fee of $750 for the five weeks at the Ranch. A select group of the thirty-two residencies are fully funded fellowships awarded by the jury panel.
Length: Five weeks.
PlatteForum Artist Residency
Denver, Colorado
PlatteForum hosts an international artist residency geared towards social justice. The artist’s practice and work created during their residency must address a social justice issue and may be created through any creative discipline. Resident artists are given full access to PlatteForum’s studio space during their residency. In return they are required to lead workshops with ArtLab interns and other youth-serving groups, culminating in exhibitions/performances in collaboration with youth. Free housing is provided for out-of-state artists.

Application fee: $35.
Stipend: $350 per week working stipend plus $750 materials stipend.
Length: Six to eight weeks.
Willowtail Springs Artist Residency
Mancos, Colorado
Willowtail Springs Nature Preserve and Education Center provides a space for artists to focus on their practice amid a serene natural setting. Artists and creatives versed in nature-based writing, film, poetry, visual arts, or performing arts are encouraged to apply.

Application fee: $25.
Stipend: Full scholarship opportunities are available to cover the costs of the residency; partial scholarships ($1,750 fee per week) and fully self-funded residencies are also available ($3,500 per week plus 5.3% tax).

Idaho Artist Residencies
Surel’s Place
Boise, Idaho
The mission of Surel’s Place is to provide artists with meaningful professional support and to provide the community with engaging, accessible artistic experiences. The residency is open to visual artists, writers, and performance artists who will reside in a light-filled live-work space steps away from the Boise River and several trails, with downtown Boise just minutes away on foot or bike. Please note that the property is 100 percent non-smoking.

Application fee: $25.
Stipend: $100 per week; $300 travel stipend; free housing/utilities provided; free or discounted tickets to art events or movies; free professional event hosting including catering, curating, and logistics.

Nevada Artist Residencies
Buffalo Creek Art Center Residency
Gardnerville, Nevada
Sculptors who make traditional figurative and abstract three-dimensional works in metal, ceramics, wood, stone, or mixed media are eligible to apply for this summer residency that’s located on a thirty-four-acre property at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Deadline to apply: Ongoing.
Application fee: $25.
Stipend: None, but residents are provided with free room and workspaces as well as access to shop equipment.
Length: Between June 1 and October 30, 2024. Residencies last for one month, and start on the first of the month and end on the last day of the month.
New Mexico Artist Residencies
Roswell Artist in-Residence Program
Roswell, New Mexico
The Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program, established in 1967 by oil and gas businessman and artist Don Anderson, gives artists “the gift of time.” The program, which focuses on visual artists with studio practices, provides six fellows with a full year of rent-free housing, ample studio space, and a monthly stipend. Southwest Contemporary broke it down in detail during an in-person visit.

Application fee: $25.
Stipend: $1,100 per month, plus $100 for a spouse/partner and each child living with the grantee.
Length: One year.
NDI New Mexico Teaching Artist in Residence Program
Santa Fe, New Mexico
This year, the National Dance Institute of New Mexico is hosting its inaugural Teaching Artist in Residence Program, and the application portal for the 2024-2025 program is now open for submissions. Choreographers will have the opportunity to foster youth development and dance education programs for multiple groups of students in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

IAIA MoCNA Social Engagement Art Residency
Santa Fe, New Mexico
The Institute for American Indian Arts Museum of Contemporary Native Arts hosts two Indigenous artists semiannually, where residents can collaborate or work independently on projects that engage the community and produce both artistic and social outcomes. The program aims to encourage contemporary Indigenous artists to strategically stimulate “shifts in community power” and build meaningful relationships with IAIA students, MoCNA staff and faculty, and the wider Santa Fe arts community. Artists are offered vast creative freedom in their chosen endeavor and may produce works ranging from visual or sound installation to photography, prints, or murals.

Stipend: $3,000 stipend and $300 supply stipend in addition to travel costs, hotel accommodations, local transportation in Santa Fe, a per diem for the ten-day residency, and access to MoCNA’s education classroom for studio needs.

Parse Seco
Arroyo Seco, New Mexico
This experimental creative space and art residency, founded in 2016, offers thirty- to ninety-day residencies for underrepresented artists, musicians, and creators, and provides “an inclusive sanctuary for the expression and amplification of minority and marginalized voices.”

Women’s International Study Center
Santa Fe, New Mexico
WISC offers creative sabbaticals as well as a fellowship-in-residence. It’s open to women writers, artists, scholars, scientists, professionals, innovators, and entrepreneurs who are working in WISC’s broad focus areas, which include the arts, sciences, cultural preservation, business, and philanthropy.

Oklahoma Artist Residencies
Tulsa Artist Fellowship
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Grounded in social change, this fellowship provides an equitable environment for a diverse community of artists in Tulsa. The three-year fellowship is open to artists and/or arts workers of any medium and/or discipline with a minimum of five years of professional experience. Fellowship awards are merit-based, not project-based, and arts professionals are gifted autonomy to explore and expand their creative practices. Participants are encouraged to engage in critical dialogue and skillshare among their artistic colleagues through monthly gatherings and annual institutes. Fully subsidized housing and studio spaces are provided.

Stipend: $150,000 over three award years along with a $12,000 yearly housing stipend, $1,200 yearly health stipend, $1,200 yearly studio assistant stipend, $1,500 relocation stipend, fully-subsidized studio spaces, and access to shared art-making facilities.

Texas Artist Residencies
Galveston Artist Residency
Galveston, Texas
Three artists are selected annually as recipients of GAR’s artist-in-residence fellowships, where recipients have unencumbered access to a studio space a few blocks away from a studio apartment. Throughout the program, residents partake in periodic open studio visits. At the end of the fellowship, the residents collaborate on a group exhibition. Please note that three friendly cats live in the studio building, so please consider this before applying if you have any allergies.

Length: Ten months from October 2024 through July 2025.
Charles Adams Studio Project
Lubbock, Texas
Learning opportunities are available to students, recent graduates, and emerging artists who are interested in gaining real-world work experience in arts administration, metalworking, and/or printmaking. Fellowships are part-time and flexible to accommodate class schedules for students. Those accepted into the program are expected to advocate for CASP’s mission by fostering an artist community through positive public engagement.
