RioBravoFineArt’s twenty-seventh year opens with an exhibition of plein-air seascapes of the Pacific Coast by painter Leo Neufeld.
This year, 2025, marks the beginning of RioBravoFineArt’s twenty-seventh year as a major arts venue in Southern New Mexico. The gallery has a full schedule of Second Saturday/Art Hop openings for the year, and the shows described here provide a preview of some of the gallery’s exhibitions of 2025.
On January 11, 6-9 pm, there is an opening reception for Art of My Soul, a show of plein-air seascapes of the Pacific Coast by Leo Neufeld. These seascapes reflect Neufeld’s love of the Pacific Coast and his exceptional mastery of plein-air painting. Many admirers and collectors of Neufeld’s work are familiar with his plein-air landscapes of the Southwest and his superb figure paintings. The January show will be a unique opportunity to become acquainted with another dimension of this talented artist. Neufeld has lived and created art from New York to California throughout an art career of nearly fifty years. In 2022, he was honored with a show Coast to Coast at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, Indiana. Currently, he lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he paints and teaches art. The show continues through March 29, 2025.
A two-person show by Nolan Winkler and David D. Sorensen, both members of the Southern New Mexico group of Border Artists, begins in April. A show pairing any of the Border Artists is always a wonderful opportunity to compare the creative processes of two exceptionally talented artists.
The gallery’s July exhibition highlights lithographs by Delmas Howe, a groundbreaking artist for the LGBTQ+ community and one of New Mexico’s most important artists. Howe is primarily known for his paintings from series such as Rodeo Pantheon, The Stations, Gesture and Texture, Guys and Canyons, and Fresh Air. His lithographic works, although less well known, represent some of his finest images.
In November, the gallery presents its annual fiber-arts show featuring quilts by Yadi Flannery. Flannery’s quilts are stunning image-making. She is one of the driving forces in making the art world realize that fiber art is truly fine art rather than craft.
RioBravoFineArt enters 2025 as an integral part of a vibrant arts scene in Truth or Consequences. Truth or Consequences, with its excellent spa facilities in its Historic Hot Springs District and a central location to many scenic, recreational, and historic areas, is one of New Mexico’s most popular destination spots.
