Santa Fe artbook publisher Radius Books hosts its 2021 Artist Weekend to bring together all of its artists, writers, and collaborators.

Radius Books: Artist Weekend Auction + Book Sale
August 27–29, 2021
Since its founding in 2007, Radius Books in Santa Fe has published more than 160 artbooks and donated more than 75,000 copies to underfunded libraries and community centers. From its earliest days, the publishing house has fostered a love of community, art, and books.
In the early 2000s, when ebooks and digital readers first started to infiltrate the market, the founders of Radius Books realized that physical artbooks in public libraries were at risk of disappearing. They joined together to form a nonprofit organization that would ensure the future of quality artbooks in physical libraries.
A few years in, they realized that many of their artists had never met one another and it made sense to create an event that would bring them together. “The initial idea for Artist Weekend sprang from what I affectionately refer to as the Radius Family,” David Chickey, publisher and creative director, explains. “I was doing a studio visit in Boston and while I was talking to the artist about fellow photographers who lived nearby, I learned that they had never met.” Chickey recognized that while artists have unique, often solitary practices, they share many of the same challenges and victories. And that was the moment Artist Weekend was hatched.
This year, Radius is also taking the opportunity to honor several beloved members of the community, including philanthropists Jeanne and Michael Klein, Galisteo artist Judy Tuwaletstiwa, and SFMOMA curator Sandra Phillips in recognition of their contributions to Radius and the larger community. “The pandemic has helped put this idea into the starkest possible relief: we need connection and contact. We need to catch up with friends we’ve known for years, to welcome new members of our community, to join together,” Chickey said. “And to share the simple joys and trials of our lives and work.”
As part of this celebration—which will now be a hybrid of in-person and online events—Radius hosts an auction to offer original works from Radius artists. All funds from the sales of these works directly support the Radius mission and the donation program.

This year’s featured artists include Alison Rossiter, Ann Hamilton, Bill Jacobson, Catherine Eaton Skinner, Charles Arnoldi, Charles Ross, Christine Corday, David Benjamin Sherry, David Kimball Anderson, David Simpson, Helen Pashgian, James Drake, Janelle Lynch, Jennifer Garza-Cuen, Jim Isermann, Judy Tuwaletstiwa, Julie Blackmon, Jungjin Lee, Kyle Meyer, Linda Foard Roberts, Mark Klett, Max Cole, Meghann Riepenhoff, Odette England, Rania Matar, scott b. davis, Sharon Core, Victoria Sambunaris, Vincent Valdez, and Wendy Red Star.
Online bidding is live through Friday, August 27 at radiusauction.org; in-person viewing is available by appointment at SITE Santa Fe from Tuesday, August 24 through Thursday, August 26, 9 am-5 pm.
