Stirring the Pot: I Don’t Cook

March 7, 7:00 pm8:30 pm

Free

“Stirring the Pot: I Don’t Cook”, video artworks by Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, is a video screening in honor of Women’s History Month. “Pinto Beans”, “Our House”, and “Miss Nalgas USA 2022” are the video artworks to be presented at San Juan College’s Connie Gotsch Theater.

Multidisciplinary artist, Meza-DesPlas blends original poetry, visual art, and performance into video artworks. By drawing upon family history and cultural heritage, she personalizes socio-cultural issues. Meza-DesPlas forefronts herself in these videos; thereby, alluding to the complex experience of being an American, Indigenous, Latina woman. Satirical humor underpins her inquiries into gender issues, socio-political topics, and cultural stereotypes.

“Our House” was an official selection of the 2022 Monologues & Poetry International Film Fest. “Miss Nalgas USA 2022” was previously screened in New York at Amos Eno Gallery and form & concept gallery in Santa Fe. This will be the debut video screening of Meza-DesPlas’ new work “Pinto Beans”. “Stirring the Pot: I Don’t Cook”, video artworks by Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, includes a Q & A with the artist after the video screening.
