Sarah Fisher: It’s OK to Feel This
opening reception: Saturday, February 14, 1-3 pm

It’s OK to Feel This, a solo exhibition by local Houston artist Sarah Fisher opening with a reception on Saturday, February 17 from 1-3 pm at the Lanecia Rouse Tinsley Gallery. Sarah Fisher is a visual artist who explores portraiture through the lens of painting, collage, printmaking, installation and sculpture who lives and works in Houston, TX.

The exhibition is curated by Doug Welsh who writes about Sarah and the exhibition saying, “For Sarah Fisher, making is a means of survival, protection, healing and transformation. The artist remains fully present with painful emotions and experiences as she repeatedly hand-prints crape myrtle bark, collages hundreds of STAIN stickers, carves wood or etches on plexiglass. These creative rituals are essential for Fisher as she confronts life’s inevitable ‘sideswipes’ in order to evolve. In recent years one of Fisher’s key influences has been renowned meditation teacher Joseph Goldstein. His mantra ‘It’s okay to feel this’ has become a tool Fisher repeats in her mind during particularly challenging moments. Through her work as a multidisciplinary artist and mindfulness student, Fisher is learning to sit with all feelings, no matter how difficult, and gently let them go.”

The opening reception is free and open to the public.
