Cora Sexton to Debut New Works from Wild Rags Series

Mother’s Day Shopping and Bubbles at Brooke Drake Showroom in Dallas

Denver-based artist Cora Sexton will be exhibiting brand new works from her Wild Rags series this week during the Shopping & Bubbles event Wednesday and Thursday, May 1 and 2 at the Brooke Drake Showroom in Dallas, Texas.

Sexton will be joining artists Kim Petty and Pippa Faumeni as well as jeweler Coco Blaisdell Smith (Cocotay Jewelry) and Esitforus clothing brand for this wonderfully curated shopping experience designed especially for Mother’s Day Shoppers.

Poggio Costa Prosecco will also be on hand for both days of the event offering three different varieties of their low sugar and one hundred percent natural white, rose’ and red Proseccos.

Sexton’s Wild Rags are three-dimensional representations of what cowboys and cowgirls wear around their necks while out on the ranch. This series of work is inspired the by the artist’s mother who wears a different one each day. Sometimes they are bandanas; sometimes vintage scarves; sometimes couture, like Hermes or Chanel; and sometimes they are embellished with a turquoise, rhinestones, or pearls.

Sexton lives in Denver and grew up on a ranch in Southern Colorado that her family still owns. Sexton recently exhibited her paintings at the annual Coors Western Art Show in Denver, Colorado.

Her paintings are three-dimensional as she builds up areas of the canvas to give them a sculpture-like quality and feel.

“I sketch onto canvas of what I want them to be, then I sculpt directly onto the canvas using a lightweight paste,” says Sexton. “When I start, this is super soft, like marshmallow fluff and I use water to smooth the lines and make layers upon layers. This material takes three to four days to harden and once that happens I use acrylics and paint right on top of it. This is why the works have a three-dimensional appearance. They are a perfect combination of painting and sculpture on canvas.”

The event will take place at Brooke Drake Showroom, 6445 Cedar Springs, Suite 112, Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, May 1 from 5 to 9pm and then on Thursday, May 2 from 11am to 4 pm.
