Southwest Contemporary is entreating its readers to stop, take a moment, and imagine what a new world could hold.
It’s a daunting task to think about the future. It’s hard enough to come up with ideas of what to cook for dinner, let alone what will happen five, ten, fifty years in the future.
But during times of unrest and upheaval, a descriptor that so clearly defines this moment right now, this envisioning is a vital task. We need to think about the future, and then work to fulfill that vision.
In her book Emergent Strategy, adrienne maree brown writes, “It is our right and responsibility to create a new world.” But bear in mind, “In order to create a new world, we must first imagine it.”
This is why we here at Southwest Contemporary are entreating our readers to stop, take a moment, and imagine what a new world could hold.
In our upcoming print issue, Vol 10: Radical Futures, we will be thinking deeply about the future—with artists, writers, and leaders in the Southwest. We would like to include your voices and visions, too. From the utopian to the dystopian, what are the possibilities?
Along with our call for pitches and call for artists for this issue, we are issuing a call to our readers to send in their visions for the future. Select responses will be published in the magazine and on the website.
