Musician Mike Marchant’s work aims to explore and extract beauty from the darker and more complex sides of the psyche.
Mike Marchant is a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who began his music career in Colorado and now lives in New Mexico.
Marchant’s projects draw from a deep well of influences and explore a wide variety of styles, but they’ve always been based around a penchant for simple, strong melodies and solid songcraft. “I write big hooks,” Marchant says, “and I use them very deliberately to pull people into these weird little worlds that I’ve created. The goal is to explore and extract beauty from the darker and more complex sides of the psyche.”
In 2018, Marchant returned from a long hiatus with an atmospheric indie rock project called Lightning Cult. When the pandemic slowed progress on his collaborative project, Marchant returned to solo work, surprise-releasing an EP titled One of Many Ends… under the moniker Steady Circuits. This new solo project, which he describes as “high-concept space pop,” will release its first full-length album in summer 2021.
During his first few years of recording and performing, Marchant was named “one of Denver’s most admired songwriters and performers” by the Denver Post and “one of Denver’s most celebrated songwriters” by Westword. The AV Club wrote that Marchant’s early projects “demonstrated a lackadaisical mastery of dreamy, druggy indie-folk.”
