Name: Maggie Grimason
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Writing for The since: 2017
1. Where are you from?
Northwest Indiana, land of lakes and soy beans
2. What is your favorite thing about New Mexico?
Mountains on the horizon, lizards, and clothes drying instantly on the line
3. What are you reading/watching/listening to lately?
Reading: I Love Dick by Chris Kraus (finally!) and back issues of Tin House; Watching: Mozart in the Jungle because I am Gael Garcia Bernal’s no. 1 fan and was a big orchestra nerd throughout my adolescence; Listening to: Soft Sounds from Another Planet by Japanese Breakfast and Terminal by Bongripper
4. What’s your favorite piece you’ve done for The Magazine?
Honestly, my favorite piece that I’ve ever written for The might be the first review I ever tackled, of Wave by Steve Barry at Sanitary Tortilla Factory. I was really moved by the work, and felt like my response was natural and inspired. I also really appreciated the opportunity to meditate on Allyson Packer’s Liquid State at Vitrine over the summer.
5. What are you looking forward to this year?
As my friend and fellow writer Robin Babb put it, “going full Chani Nicholas” and being really intentional about what I do, where I go, and in all of my relationships. Also continuing to learn how to play drums and starting to actually make my bed.
6. What are you done with this year?
Trying to change the things that I actually have no control over. It’s exhausting! Also the Whole Foods hot bar. It’s too expensive and I’m always hungry.
