Introducing: Southwest Contemporary
Welcome to the next chapter of The Magazine! In July, the beginning of The Magazine’s 28th year, I launched a new business: Southwest Contemporary. (If you missed this launch, sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page!) Southwest Contemporary is a new art media company that will serve as an umbrella over The Magazine while also carving out room for this company to evolve and grow.
Over the last few years, this company has become much more than just a magazine, and we have outgrown the name that limits our scope to a single platform. This new name and new brand allow us to branch out digitally, to offer live events and programming, and more exciting projects to come. This new company is better positioned to reach larger audiences and deliver more content across diverse platforms. With this shift, we are leveling up to be the best resource for New Mexico contemporary arts that we can be, to reach audiences where they are at, and give New Mexico art and artists global exposure.
Last month, I also announced an important and exciting change to The Magazine itself. Come October, The Magazine will receive a major upgrade by becoming a true magazine on high-quality paper with an added cover stock. At this time the magazine will become a bimonthly publication to make room for other kinds of content within our production schedule.
If you would like to learn more about these changes and the reasons behind them, I wrote a blog post about it here. You can also subscribe to our online newsletter and follow us on social media for updates every step of the way.
The mission of this media company is to connect people to art. We do this by creating an accessible, curated, and critical framework for looking at and reading about art and ideas; by sharing an inclusive, authentic narrative of contemporary arts and culture in New Mexico on local and global scales; and by contributing to a thriving New Mexico arts economy by creating visibility and credibility for artists, creators, art businesses, and organizations.
If you would like to support the work we are doing to support New Mexico art and artists, consider subscribing to the print magazine, becoming a premium account holder on our website (where you can post calendar events and more), or advertising in print or digitally, or simply sharing an article with a friend. Information on all of these opportunities can be found on this site.
I am so incredibly grateful for the support that we have received over the last three and a half years since I became the owner and publisher of The Magazine and throughout the recent launch of Southwest Contemporary. I look forward to continuing to deliver insightful, quality content and sharing new projects and opportunities as we grow. I hope you will continue to support us along the way!
In gratitude,
