what remains in the absence of water delves into the theme of dry land and the elusive presence of water. Working in tandem with the landscape of New Mexico, whose deserts served as the world’s first testing grounds for nuclear explosions, and the narrative of “unproductive land” to describe the desert, this exhibition aims to challenge themes of productivity, while focusing on the prevalence of stillness.
The exhibition seeks to explore alternative narratives and draw parallels with the desert landscape, and ancestral backgrounds of black and brown marginalized groups who are often used as testing grounds for warfare and deemed unproductive in our deep rest of stillness.
Works will include: multimedia sculpture, short films, performance art, and interactive experiences
