Sam Scott: Deep Nature
opening reception: Friday, April 19, 5-7 pm
on view: April 19–May 18, 2024
Pie Projects is honored to present Sam Scott: Deep Nature, paintings and watercolors by one of the great living abstract painters; a world renown artist who has made Santa Fe his home for over fifty years.
In addition to recent work watercolors and oil paintings, the exhibition features Scott’s iconic masterpiece quartet entitled ‘Four Tides,’ created in 1996 during his artist-in-residence at Texas A&M in Corpus Christi.
At his core, Scott is a nature painter. He made it his goal to paint nature’s major systems: the forest, the ocean, the mountains, and the desert. His colorful life allows him to experience deeply these subjects, from his expedition in the amazonian jungle to his fishing work in the fierce Alaskan seas, from his journeys in the Alps to his love of the Southwestern desert.
Sam Scott has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally in his fifty-five-year career and was among the first artists to represent New Mexico at the Whitney Museum Biennial of Contemporary Art in New York City. His work is in many private and public collections. He is one of five artists in various media who have been chosen to represent the Capitol Art Collection as a “State Treasure”, in the Capitol Building of Santa Fe.
