On view in Art League Houston’s Front Gallery, Everything is Ruins In This House by Paola de la Calle delves into the intricate connection between power and memory, drawing inspiration from Colombian writer María Mercedes Carranza’s poem “La Patria” (“The Motherland”). Building upon the thematic foundations of her debut solo exhibition, In This House We Are Buried Alive, (SOMARTS, San Fransico, CA), De La Calle explores collective memory and historical amnesia, intertwining the socio-political landscapes of the United States and Colombia. Through a multidisciplinary approach incorporating printmaking, ceramics, and textiles, she confronts the ghosts of history, inviting audiences to engage with archives and the implications of forgetting.
