Barbara Mehlman + Kathy Lucoff Godin: IN-SITU A Studio Exhibition
opening reception + ongoing exhibition: November 24-25, 11 am-4 pm.
Santa Fe-based artists, Barbara Mehlman and Kathy Lucoff Godin, are hosting a show of their artworks in Mehlman’s gallery-like working studio. The working studio backdrop provides a glimpse into both artists’ practices. As diverse as their art is, the two artists capture intimacy on a dramatically large and small scale.
Mehlman’s work is showcased in process as well as through finished pieces. Lucoff Godin has installed her paintings as they exist in her studio with bits of photographic
information that have impacted her work.
Mehlman’s diaphanous large-scale floor to ceiling sculptures bleed into one another to
create a sweeping installation marked by childhood memory, identity and states of mind.
The use of digital imagery, 2D and 3D components, combined with natural materials
creates a dream-like reality mixing figuration with abstract elements that play with one’s
vision and comprehension.
Lucoff Godin’s paintings are a consummate product of her environment. As an LA native
who lived in Morocco for many years, and is now a Santa Fe resident, her artwork
abstractly continues to capture life’s little moments….. its grandeur and grace. Gardens,
carpets and the natural landscape are some of the components illuminated in her
complex, yet delicate mélange of color and chaos.
