Anna Rotty: How We Hold the Sun
opening reception: March 8, 6-9 pm
closing reception: April 5, 4-7 pm
on view: March 8–April 5, 2024

Experimental, independent art space fourteenfifteen gallery, located in Historic Barelas on Tiwa land, is hosting an exhibition this March by artist Anna Rotty in the fourteenfifteen and adjacent Alpaca space.

Artist Statement:
How We Hold the Sun explores the transformational and relational qualities of light and water. I am fascinated by rivers as fluid beings with complicated histories – bodies representing power, agency, but also subject to attempts to control. I observe, and then reconstruct my photographs in the studio, or within the environment, that investigate the systems, both natural and built, that transfer energy and water from place to place. I invite movement through space and physical engagement, helping us slow down, pay attention, and shift perception. I ask: How can we show land and water as fluid, reciprocal experiences, rather than as fixed representations?”

As a D.I.Y. art space devoted to community engagement and to giving experimental, underrepresented, and emerging artists and collectives a space where they can take chances with their work, fourteenfifteen gallery continues to positively impact Albuquerque’s art scene with a wide breadth of exhibitions and events.
