Material is proud to present the exhibition “Andrew Alba: Inheritance”, a presentation of new paintings and drawings by nationally renowned Utah artist Andrew Alba, opening on March 1, 2024. The exhibition will also be available for viewing on Friday, March 15, 6-8 pm, as part of Salt Lake City’s Gallery Stroll.
Andrew Alba (b. 1986), a descendant of Mexican migrant workers, is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist making work that reflects our sociocultural present. Through his raw, expressive application of oil paint and use of non-traditional, construction site materials, Alba strives to free himself and his work of theoretical or academic traditions and constraints.
Alba has exhibited widely throughout Utah and in the Pacific Northwest. He is a recipient of a Visual Arts Fellowship from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums and was selected to complete a residency as part of the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art Artist-in-Residence program.
