opening reception: Friday, October 11, 5-9 pm
on view: October 11–November 12, 2024
Announcing our next one-person show of our fall season showcasing the new work of Aaron Karp titled Perfect Season. Aaron has been living and working in Albuquerque since the 1970s. His work is in the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Albuquerque Museum, Roswell Museum, and the Museum of New Mexico to name a few. His work continues the layered approach to his abstract acrylic paintings that have defined his unique style. Aaron describes his work as “systems on top of systems, pushing the system to expand my vocabulary about how you see breaks in color or shapes.” This approach has kept him at the top when it comes to abstract painters in New Mexico.
Artist Statement
“Layering itself, I believe makes up the central metaphor in my work, both literally and figuratively. The process involved in making the paintings is intimately connected to their meaning. The work is about concealing and revealing. It is about the featuring of color and space, about looking at and into something to extract information and meaning.”
