Bob Brady’s ceramic sculptures in As Above…, are inspired by ancient alchemical legends and concepts. Brady invites the unseen – etheric currents of feelings, memories, intuition and wisdom – into his creative process as he wrestles with the materials of earth (clay, minerals and metals, wood, water, fire).
Brady first studied clay with Santa Fe legend Felipe Ortega, learning how to hand-build functional, micaceous pottery. As he continues to explore time’s effect on nature in his work, Brady is now combining clay with other materials and techniques, including Shou Sugi Ban—a Japanese method of charring and preserving wood.
