This exhibition is an extension of explorations made mainly in two bodies of work, Altered States (2016, ongoing) and Your Nowhere is My Somewhere. See You There (2017), combining Snyder’s ‘70s and ‘80s labor-intensive ways of drawing with the minimalist one-line style he developed in the ‘90s. The Magdalena drawings are based on locations in the New Mexico town Snyder moved to 2017- 19. These drawings exist somewhere between representation, quantum fantasy, and sheer love of drawing, perhaps implying that the center of the universe may be found anywhere.
In addition to the exhibition, Warehouse 1-10 will feature music by The Dawn Hotel on Saturday May 4, at 8 pm.
Hills Snyder: Magdalena Drawings is part of the 11th Annual Art Magdalena Gallery and Studio Tour. During this time, Warehouse 1-10 will be open on May 4 and 5, from 10 am to 4 pm along with many other Magdalena galleries and artist’s studios.
Be sure to visit Cruising Main, Magdalena’s three miniature outdoor galleries, south to north along Main Street. Also, La Posada at CWB Gallery, and kind of a small array.
