The Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel and Conference Center and the Georgetown Arts and Culture Program are partnering on an Artist in Residency Program during October, the National Month of the Arts and Humanities.
Alfonso Huerta, a printmaker and multi-disciplinary artist working as a member of Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking, has been selected as the 2024 Artist in Residence at the Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel and Conference Center. Huerta will set up a printing press and workspace in the lobby of the hotel throughout the month of October.
A native of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México, Alfonso Huerta’s unique perspective blends an awareness of the beauty of everyday objects with a playful surrealism and lush tropical colors. He currently lives and works in Austin, Texas. Huerta has produced a limited edition of prints, primarily hand-colored, and he paints in egg tempera, beeswax, and pastels as well as creating pencil drawings. He recently illustrated a book on Maya myth and legend called Maya Gods and Monsters written by Carol Karasik. Huerta has exhibited in México and has done two sponsored shows for the City of Austin. In addition, Huerta has shown at the Dougherty Arts Center, St. Edwards University, and a solo exhibition at La Peña Gallery. Huerta has his works on display and for sale at Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking, a printmaking studio and gallery in Austin dedicated to creating and promoting the art and craft of the original print.
