Screening: Phantom Roots

A production fundraising event at Atelier Czerny, that showcases exclusive scenes from Phantom Roots – a family road memoir that spans the Vietnamese diaspora from New Mexico to Little Saigon, California. Midway through completion, local director Erica Nguyen invites the community to bolster the next stage of filmmaking.

This special assembly of her work-in-progress features:
Ancestor worship at a matriarchal resting place, contextualized by sutra wisdom. The ghostly presence of boats in the desert, approaching the 50th anniversary of the mass exodus of oceanic refugees. Transformative elements of fire on mica-rich clay, as homage to what home has become now.

An accompaniment to the exhibition past migrations now. Where an impressive selection of works by multidisciplinary artist Orso Czerny. This personal collection spans the last 15 years of dedication to an evolving practice. Each piece a past migration, a past journey to the present.
