Located in the heart of Santa Fe’s historic Canyon Road district, Gaia Contemporary presents a unique blend of sculpture, painting, jewelry, kimono, photography, art furniture, and Japanese antiquities. The founders of the gallery, an American lawyer and his Japanese wife who divide their time between Santa Fe and Tokyo, established the gallery in 2021 as a manifestation of their deep cultural interests in Japanese minimalism and their affinity for Western aesthetics. Through the interweaving of these two cultures, Gaia Contemporary offers a fresh and innovative vision.
The gallery owners travel the world to bring their clientele cutting-edge artwork by nationally and internationally acclaimed American and Japanese artists. In addition to a vigorous exhibition schedule, the staff works closely with private collectors to build their collections and provide art advisory services.
This summer, the gallery presents four solo exhibitions by female artists from across the country. Between this striking line-up and their unique offerings of vintage kimono and Japanese antiquities, Gaia Contemporary is not a gallery to miss!
McCreery L. Jordan: Forty Years—from Realism to Abstract

In June, local artist McCreery L. Jordan solos in Forty Years—from Realism to Abstract, a career retrospective spanning Jordan’s journey through all genres of art. As a highly accomplished painter and sculptress, the artist has mastered realism, impressionism, and abstract painting. Jordan’s ability to move deftly between two-dimensional and three-dimensional work is evidence of her extraordinary command of these forms.
Amy Donaldson: Love by Design

In July, Love by Design presents California-based artist Amy Donaldson’s vibrant, colorful compositions. Donaldson’s practice is both additive and subtractive. A master colorist, Donaldson employs luscious oil strokes across the canvas’s surface, repeatedly adding and scraping back selected areas of the composition to achieve the appearance of timeworn erosion.
Nicki Marx: The Eilee Series

In August, Taos, New Mexico–based artist Nicki Marx celebrates the “magic of nature” in The Eilee Series. In this body of work, Marx works exclusively with natural materials such as mica and feathers to create modern, sacred geometries that provoke spiritual contemplation and a meditative ambiance.
Liz Barber: Color Odyssey

Color Odyssey will round out Gaia Contemporary’s summer program with Georgia-based artist Liz Barber’s energetic, painterly abstractions in September. Barber uses a largely spontaneous poured-paint process in which incidental reactions occur between various media. The process results in volumetric layers and organic textures that bloom across the artist’s canvases.
