Tamarind Talks: Harmony Hammond in Conversation with Faye Hirsch
Saturday, April 6, at 1 pm
Albuquerque Museum
Join the Tamarind Institute for a conversation with 2023-24 Frederick Hammersley Artist Residency recipient Harmony Hammond and educator, art historian, and critic Faye Hirsch.
Emerging as a prominent figure within the feminist art movement in New York during the early 1970s, artist, writer, and curator Harmony Hammond’s pioneering contributions reverberate through the realms of art, feminism, and cultural discourse. At the genesis of her artistic journey, she deftly interwove gender politics with the nuanced considerations of post-minimalism, transcending traditional boundaries between painting and sculpture. Through her innovative exploration of materials and processes, Hammond carved out a distinct space where concepts of femininity, identity, and artistic expression converge, shaping the trajectory of contemporary art in profound and enduring ways.
Hammond’s work has been exhibited at the New Mexico Museum of Art, the New Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, Tucson Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Hammond has received two Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants and fellowships from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Hammond will be featured in the Whitney Biennial 2024: Even Better Than the Real Thing, on view from March 20 to August 11, 2024.
Tickets for the Hammond + Hirsch conversation can be purchased here.
This program is supported by the Frederick Hammersley Fund for the Arts at the Albuquerque Community Foundation.
