Adobe churches, ancestral pueblos, canyon views, and a glass of New Mexico wine—Heritage Inspirations’ High Road tour unfolds the Land of Enchantment, one stop at a time.

Heritage Inspirations invites travelers to venture north from Santa Fe along the storied High Road to Taos, a scenic byway that traverses a historic mountainous route and ventures into remote artistic enclaves rooted in ancestral traditions. This thoughtfully curated, full-day experience offers an immersive exploration of New Mexico’s history, architecture, and living culture.
The day begins in Chimayó, on the doorstep of Santuario de Chimayó, where a sacred shrine built in the early 19th century has become one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the United States. From there, the journey moves on through charmingly bucolic villages, where local artists and multi-generational traditions offer a window into the enduring cultural fabric of Northern New Mexico.
In the village of Las Trampas, guests visit San José de Gracia Church, a National Historic Landmark that has remained in continuous use for more than 225 years. Widely considered one of the most beautiful colonial-era churches in the country, it stands as a testament to the region’s architectural and spiritual legacy. As the road winds upward, expansive views unfold, including glimpses of Wheeler Peak, before descending through a verdant canyon toward Taos.
A visit to Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site continuously inhabited for over 1,000 years, provides a rare connection to the ancient past. There, guests experience Puebloan hospitality with a traditional meal at Al’Thloo’s Café, where locally inspired dishes reflect the flavors and traditions of the community.
The path reveals the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, where the land opens dramatically into a 565-foot-deep chasm, revealing the geologic story of the Rio Grande Rift. Traveling along the quieter rim road, guests take in sweeping views of multi-colored basalt walls and the expansive high desert landscape.
Before returning to Santa Fe, the experience concludes at Vivác Winery, a high-altitude refuge known for its carefully crafted wines made from New Mexico-grown grapes.
Guided by expert storytellers and stewards of New Mexico, weaves together landscape, history, and lived experience. Each stop along the route contributes to a deeper understanding of the people, traditions, and environments that define this region. Rooted in a mission to connect travelers to the voices, stories, and wild places of the Land of Enchantment, Heritage Inspirations offers an experience that is as enriching as it is unforgettable.
