New Mexico Performing Arts Society is excited to announce our 13th season will kick off in September with the rescheduled New Mexico Bach Society performance of the Baroque composer’s St. John Passion.
The operatic work has not been performed in its entirety in New Mexico for over a decade. It was previously scheduled as part of the 2023–24 season, but the performance was postponed due to illness in the ensemble.
St. John Passion is a two-hour musical depiction of the Passion of Christ as told by the Evangelist, based on the Gospel of John. The arias and choruses underscore the Biblical story of Jesus’ death and end on the hopeful note of Jesus’ return to Earth.
Gregory Gallagher will narrate the story as the Evangelist while Pojoaque’s Javier Ortiz will fulfill the part of Jesus. Members of the New Mexico Bach Society Chorale and Orchestra will make up the rest of the ensemble which is under Vote’s direction.
Tickets can be purchased online at nmpas.org/tickets/ or by calling Hold My Ticket at 877-466-3404. Tickets may also be purchased at the door with cash or check. More information about the performances can be found on our website, https://nmpas.org/events/.
