Andrea R. Hanley (Navajo), Membership and Program Manager at the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe, will jury The Magazine‘s inaugural Artists’ Issue, out this February. Hanley has been an arts advocate for more than 25 years. Her career has been guided and dedicated to the work of contemporary American Indian artists and the American Indian fine art field. Hanley has had an impressive career working as a curator, gallerist, writer, fundraiser, lecturer, and volunteer. She spent over nine years at the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; worked as fine arts coordinator/curator for the city of Tempe; Executive Director for ATATL, Inc., an organization dedicated to Native American art advocacy; Artrain, USA, a national arts organization, as its Sponsorship and Major Gifts Officer; and the founding manager of the Berlin Gallery at the Heard Museum. She has over three decades of professional experience working in the field of exhibition development and arts management, primarily focusing on American Indian art. Hanley is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation.
At The Magazine, we are passionate about providing opportunities and visibility for emerging and mid-career artists. This annual artists’ issue will share the most compelling, vibrant contemporary art being made in our state with our readers, and connect New Mexico artists to a larger audience. Artists living and working in New Mexico are welcome to submit artwork in any medium via the form on our website.
Eligibility: Artists 18 and older are welcome to submit with artworks in any medium. Artists must spend 51% or more of the year in residence in New Mexico.
Selected Artists: Artists selected will receive a 2-page spread in The Magazine’s February-March 2019 issue, including a brief bio, website link, and images of work. Each selected artist will also be featured on The Magazine’s website. All selected artists will also be invited to participate in a group exhibition in Santa Fe organized by our team.
