Founded in 2022, the Taos Abstract Artist Collective has exhibited nearly 400 works while fostering creative dialogue among New Mexico artists.

Nestled beneath the Sangre de Cristo mountains, the Taos Abstract Artist Collective stands as a beacon of connectivity for abstract artists and art enthusiasts in the Southwest. TAAC nurtures creative dialogues, promotes innovative aesthetics, and enhances the exchange of ideas among artists dedicated to the collective force of community development. Drawing on the rich artistic history of Taos, TAAC embodies the spirit of abstract thinking that has forever defined this unique region.
Taos has long been fertile ground for creative expression among Taoseños and travelers alike. Since its inception in 2022, TAAC has celebrated provocative abstraction through a series of exhibitions, community programs, events, and publications; collaborating with local museums and institutions to bolster artistic development and visibility in the Southwest, exhibiting nearly 400 abstract works from artists across New Mexico.
TAAC’s commitment to accessibility and diversity allows for a richness of varied and shared experiences and perspectives within the abstract art world. As Santa Fe–based artist Susan Faust reflects, “Being a member has not only inspired me artistically but given me a sense of community so important to the creative spirit. As Taos has been a hub of collective creative energy for centuries—so it is now for abstract artists.”
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, TAAC prides itself on being an artist-driven platform that nurtures creativity and collaboration. Run entirely on a volunteer basis, board members and active volunteers encourage open communication and active growth. Board member and sculptor Brian Barreto states, “I’m always impressed, not only by the high caliber of work but the overall continuity and surprising conversations that arise between pairings of works. The spring and fall TAAC shows are timely surveys of what’s beating creatively in Northern New Mexico!”
As the horizons of abstract art in Northern New Mexico expand, TAAC remains steadfast in its commitment to highlighting the vital voices of artists who dare to push boundaries, challenge barriers, and redefine free expression in the world of art.
