Painting Scenarios includes a selection of recent cut and painted steel sculptures and mixed-media dimensional paintings by Mick Burson. In his studies of multiple images—trucks, matchbooks, and horses—Burson reduces these forms to whimsical shapes and colors. Burson has painted public art murals all over the world, including the largest mural in New Mexico on the Keshet Dance Center in Albuquerque. His work is in the permanent collections of the Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection, the Navasota Public Library, Texas, and the University of New Mexico, among others.
Also on view are selections of clay and acrylic paintings on paper and panel by Terri Rolland. Her reductive abstract shapes and color choices are inspired by place, including desert landscapes, ancient dwellings, and monuments. The matte clay surfaces of her paintings give them an earthy quality that echoes the subject matter. Rolland’s work has been shown in New Mexico at the Harwood Museum, Center for Contemporary Art, El Museo Cultural, the Governor’s Gallery, the Santa Fe Art Institute, 516 Arts, and the Roswell Museum. She has had fellowships and residencies at Ucross, MacDowell, Jentel, and the Roswell Artist-in-Residence program. She has received grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation. This is the artist’s first exhibition with Richard Levy Gallery.
