New Holocaust Museum in Arizona Slated to Open in 2025
The Arizona Jewish Historical Society is working towards expanding its Cutler-Plotkin Jewish Heritage Center, located near the Burton Barr Central Library and the Phoenix Art Museum, into a new 17,000-square-foot Center for Hope, Humanity, and Holocaust Education by late 2025, reports Hyperallergic.

Container, Santa Fe
This past weekend, Turner Carroll Gallery opened Container, a new contemporary art space that will mount touring museum exhibitions inside of a 5,000-square-foot shipping container in the Santa Fe Railyard. The exhibition Seven Contemplations by the artist Swoon is currently on display.
Bentley Gallery, Phoenix
The legacy Phoenix gallery of nearly four decades is moving from its warehouse digs on Grant Street to the new Ida shipping container project, a six-story apartment development at 250 East McKinley Street in downtown Phoenix. A grand opening for the gallery, which will occupy the building’s entire first floor, is planned Friday, November 18, 2022, 6-9 pm.

Santa Fe Art Institute Announces 2023 Changing Climate Residents
Paul Sta. Ana, Cara Despain, Tintawi Kaigziabiher, Su-Yee Lin, and Randi Renate are among the nearly fifty recipients of SFAI’s Changing Climate residency, which will “support artistic exploration, creative activism, and community art actions related to global warming that inspire individual transformation and inform collective action.”

Changes at the Top at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson
Julio César Morales, a subject of a recent Southwest Contemporary curator profile, has become the executive director and co-chief curator at MOCA Tucson, while Laura Copelin assumes a new role as deputy director and co-chief curator. Morales most recently worked at the Arizona State University Museum in Tempe as senior curator, while Copelin, who has also received the SWC curator profile treatment, has been with MOCA Tucson since January 2020.
A Curator Hire at the Nevada State Museum
Josef Diaz has become the curator of history and material culture at the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas. Diaz previously worked in Santa Fe at the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art and the New Mexico History Museum.
Phoenix Art Museum Creates Curator Position Focused on Arizona Artists and Community Art
Christian Ramírez is Phoenix Art Museum’s first assistant curator of contemporary and community art initiatives, a position that focuses on creating programs and exhibitions to promote Arizona statewide artists. Ramírez, who is scheduled to assume her role on November 28, 2022, previously served as the artist-residency and exhibition manager at Artpace in San Antonio, Texas.
UtahPresents Names New Executive Director
Chloe Jones is now the head of UtahPresents, the arts and culture presenting arm of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Jones, who was also hired as an assistant dean for art and creative engagement at the U, most recently worked for dance and performing arts organization The Yard near Martha’s Vineyard, according to a UtahPresents press release.
