Jim Elniski is a community-engaged artist working with climate justice and water issues. Recently relocating from Chicago, his first site-specific art project in New Mexico is Water Rhythms at CasaAgua.
Water Rhythms is an audio work composed of recordings of rainwater running through the canales and downspouts of the main building of Casa Agua. This multitrack mix, reflects Elniski’s longstanding interest in phenomenology, percussive instruments, and midcentury minimalist composition.
Engaging the acoustics of the cylindrical chamber, it is the inaugural project of the WaterWorks series at The Tank, a repurposed galvanized water tank situated in the Future Garden of Casa Agua. This soundscape reflects the artist’s interest in how we contact, shape, and are shaped by the world around us.
