Richard Levy Gallery is pleased to present Stardust Dialogues, a presentation of photographs by Elizabeth Chiles. The exhibition explores concepts of time, perception, and eco-spirituality.
Elizabeth Chiles works with vegetation, fabric, shadow, and digital collage techniques to explore the relationship between the tangible and the immaterial. Layers of transparent linen fabric, cutout plant forms, and silhouettes are woven together evoking an ephemeral kaleidoscopic effect. Interested in spiritual ecology and the connection between earth and cosmic forces, Chiles uses flowers from the Asteraceae family—sunflowers, marigolds, and daisies. Throughout Stardust Dialogues, Chiles draws attention to vital and intangible forces–light, time, and energy–found in every aspect of nature.
Elizabeth Chiles is a lens-based artist and educator living in Austin. Her work has been widely exhibited, including solo exhibitions at Koslov Larsen Gallery, Fotofest, Galveston Arts Center, Southwest School of Art, testsite, and grayDUCK Gallery, as well as group exhibitions at Foley Gallery, conduit gallery, and The Contemporary Austin. Chiles holds a B.A. in art history from Columbia University and an M.F.A. in photography from San Francisco Art Institute.
Join us Friday, June 6 for a conversation with the artist, acclaimed author Judith Phillips, regenerative farmer and award-winning athlete Kevin Biggers, and Laurel Ladwig from the ABQ Backyard Refuge Program. This discussion is moderated by Katya Crawford, a professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of New Mexico.
We are offering a Regenerative Sound Bath with Kristen Loree on June 8th from 3:00–4:30. Experience the restorative power of sound in an art exhibition at the Richard Levy Gallery. The sound experience is free to attend, and pre-registration is required.
