Here’s the lowdown on several artist residencies in Mexico City, where creatives in various stages of their careers can expand their own bodies of work while enjoying collaboration, community, and cultural exchange.

Casa Lienzo Artist Residency
A community-oriented residency for visual artists emphasizing collaboration with local artists, galleries, and curators. Includes communal studios, workshops, cultural tours, and a group exhibition.
Location: Hipódromo Condesa
Stay: Private art-hotel rooms with workspace; shared kitchen + common spaces; group + individual meals.
Cost: $1,900 for three weeks. More for longer residencies; less if you have your own off-site sleeping arrangements.

Casa Lü Parque Visual Artist Residency
This residency for emerging and mid-career visual artists prioritizes experimentation, risk-taking, and innovative approaches to art. Program includes dedicated studio time, regular feedback, curated cultural outings, studio visits, exchanges with the local arts community, and a group exhibition.
Location: Near Condesa and Roma (trendy) and San Ángel and Coyoacán (historic).
Stay: Private room with ensuite bathroom.
Facilities: House built in the 1960s by Mexican Modernist architect Guillermo de Ita.
Cost: Standard residency (30 days) with shared studio, $3,250 USD. More for a private studio or the extended 40-day residency; less for a private studio with no housing. Artists can apply for $1,000 USD scholarships or fully funded residencies.

Casa Lü Sur Visual Artist Residency
An experience for emerging and established visual artists (and artists working in other disciplines) that prioritizes critical reflection and the development of innovative new work. Program includes dedicated studio time, curated cultural outings, studio visits, regular feedback, one-on-one meetings with local artists, and a group exhibition.
Location: Historic Tlalpan district (southern Mexico City).
Stay: Main house with private bedrooms/baths; casita for artist duos, collectives, or artist companions; private apartment for up to two people.
Facilities: House built in 1991 on a historic plot called Atlipa.
Cost: Starts at $3,250 for standard 33 days, higher for certain accommodations or extended residencies.

Chapulín Artist Residency
A residency for actively practicing visual, plastic, and multidisciplinary artists focused on artistic production, professional dialogue, and connecting participants to the local arts scene. Program includes shared studio space (two artists per studio), critical sessions with arts professionals, and a culminating open studio to showcase work for curators, gallerists, and cultural agents.
Location: San Miguel Chapultepec (near Condesa and Roma).
Stay: Individual rooms with access to common areas.
Facilities: Chapulín Studio.
Cost: $26,000-28,000 MXN.

Lagos International Artist Residency
An international program for artists, writers, curators, editors, and cultural agents (based in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, or China) working across visual, sound, digital, or performance art. Emphasizes production, exhibition, and deeper development of contemporary projects in both conceptual and material terms. Program offers workspace, specialist collaboration, exhibition and open studio opportunities, portfolio review, community engagement, and curatorial/logistical support.
Location: Mid-twentieth-century semi-industrial complex in the central-east portion of Mexico City, near Polanco.
Stay: Room/board not included; Lagos can recommend housing options.
Facilities: Private studio and shared common space.
Cost: Starts at $25,000-32,500 MXN per month (depending on studio size) for one to three months in the International Program.
2026 Dates: Applicants request specific weeks/months to participate (flexible scheduling).

Pachoa Artist Residency
A new program that offers time at PROArtes Mexico’s Apapacho residency, along with a stipend to help with travel costs, tutoring, consultation, and support in achieving each resident’s proposed goals. Two arts professionals on a mid-career trajectory (including visual, literary, performing or design artists; curators; or art historians) will receive a 14-day residency, and another will be selected for a 28-day residency in October 2026.
Location: Multipurpose residency space in Colonia Del Valle, close to emblematic neighborhoods, institutions, and historical sites in Mexico City.
Stay: Bedroom and bathroom provided.
Facilities: Studio, patio-studio, kitchen, dining area.
Cost: Fully funded by organization. Residency includes $500 travel stipend.
2026 Dates: November 2-15 or November 17-30.
Apply: Online form + biography + statement of purpose + portfolio + portrait + two professional references. Deadline January 27, 2026. No fee.
Note: PROArtes Mexico’s Apapacho artist residency is nearly full for 2026, so the organization is encouraging arts professionals interested in self-developed residencies to apply for 2027 openings.
Radio28 International Artist Residency
A residency from Radio28 Creative Studio for visual and interdisciplinary artists that emphasizes exploration and experimentation across techniques and media. Program offers personalized mentorship, material research trips, classes, studio visits with local artists, visits to cultural spaces, and a group exhibition.
Location: Historic center of Mexico City (Cuauhtémoc).
Stay: Accommodations not included.
Facilities: Various workshops (wood, molds/casting, prints) and equipment; shared workspaces, kitchen, and bathroom.
Cost: $25,000 MXN.
2026 Dates: February, July, or October. Exact details announced in open calls.

Rondo Residency
Visual and performing artists and curators are invited to this residency that emphasizes artistic production and engagement with the local contemporary arts scene. The Axis Program includes a week focused on each of four areas: production, theory, art market, and public relations.
Location: Colonia Portales, southern Mexico City.
Stay: Choose from a live-work option (private room with shared bathroom and amenities), and an only-work option (studio space only; accommodations not included).
Facilities: Renovated old print factory; private or shared studios, communal workspace, fully-equipped wood shop, on-site paint shop, small research library.
Cost: $2,000 USD for live-work option; $1,300 USD for only-work option.
2026 Dates: One-month residency during spring or fall semester; some longer residencies available.
