If classical ballet isn’t quite your thing (and even if it is), leave it to Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, presented this holiday season by Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, to reintroduce you to the art form. Somewhere between high art and lowbrow camp, this all-male ballet troupe wittily parodies dance classics, from Swan Lake to Martha Graham, all while en pointe. The company was founded in New York City in 1974, where they produced small, late-night shows in off-off-Broadway lofts, and the troupe currently has eighteen performers hailing from all over the world. While the humor hinges on parody and physical comedy, there are many passages that show off the dancers’ skills even more than they are comic.
