Echoes of Injustice features the work of Renee Billingslea, Jerry Takigawa, and Dean K. Terasaki, three photographers whose deeply personal and visually compelling work explores the enduring impact of the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans.

Billingslea documents all ten camps across the U.S., blending present-day images with archival photos, gold thread, and earth from each site to explore visibility and erasure. Takigawa’s Balancing Cultures draws on family artifacts to process inherited trauma and honor the silence of his parents who were incarcerated at Jerome. Terasaki’s Veiled Inscriptions overlays present-day images of camp sites with letters discovered in his family’s Denver pharmacy, bearing witness to lives torn apart.

The exhibition opens Saturday, May 10 with a free Taiko Drumming Ceremony at 4:30 pm and a public reception from 5:00–8:00 pm at CPAC.

A free virtual artist panel, moderated by CPAC Executive Director Samantha Johnston, will be held on Zoom Wednesday, May 21 at 5:30 pm.
