(re)collections is a carefully curated exhibit of eight Tucson women artists. It’s a collection of places and objects with recollections of landscapes, events and experiences. Just like our memories: some sharp and rooted in reality, while others so vague, that they become dream-like, this exhibit brings together the duality of experiences in one space. Thus, artifacts collected in the aftermath of a very real to us Bighorn fire of 2020 coexist alongside abstracted textural explorations in encaustics; recognizable objects captured through a lens exist along fictional painted landscapes. Artists are introspective witnesses to the processes taking place within and without, recording, examining and offering us their thoughtful impressions and recollections through their works.
