Bonnie Meltzer: Tikkun Olam: Mending the Social Fabric
On view: May 1–June 27, 2025
Opening reception: May 1, 5:00–7:00pm

Ray Drew Gallery presents Bonnie Meltzer, Tikkun Olam: Mending the Social Fabric, a solo exhibition. It is a privilege to show such an accomplished artist at Ray Drew Gallery, NMHU. Meltzer has exhibited her work widely across the U.S. A few highlighted institutions: Oregon Jewish Museum, Portland, OR, Maryhill Museum of Art, WA, Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland, OR, Textile Arts Center, Chicago Illinois, and the Museum of American Craft, NY.

Meltzer inspired by the concept of tikkun olam, a Hebrew term that means Repair the World, she constructed the installation that literally does just that. Central to the exhibition is a 20 foot diameter parachute, a symbol of safety that was intentionally torn to convey the fraying of the metaphoric social fabric. As the Installation moves to new venues visitors patch and embroider the torn fabric creating a colorful border that became a symbol of action, hope and healing.

Tikkun Olam: Mending the Social Fabric is NOT one giant Kvetch (complaint in Yiddish) about the unraveling of the social fabric. It is a timely and timeless exhibition that embraces action, hope and healing.” – Bonnie Meltzer
