Opening: Stories of the Southwest: New Work by Dave Newman

Stories of the Southwest, a new exhibition of mixed media works by artist Dave Newman, opens at Faust Galleries on Friday, July 10, with a special reception from 5 to 7 pm at the gallery’s new location on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Marcy Street in the heart of downtown Santa Fe, just off the historic Plaza. Newman works in mixed media and acrylic and his original constructions combine his love of American nostalgia and pop culture with iconic imagery of the American Southwest.“My body of work is shaped by landscapes and historic remnants of the American Southwest,” says Newman. “Most of my inspiration comes from nature, the dynamic skies found across the West, weathered signs and rust.”Rust. It is of particular importance to Newman. It incapsulates everything he finds appealing about found objects and why they are a focus for his constructions. “I love rust.,” says Newman. “The nostalgic appeal of mid-century Americana is woven into each piece, evoking my memories from childhood in Anaheim, California.”
