Opening: Patricia Apt and Daniel Region: Connoisseurs of Beauty

Connoisseurs of Beauty ~ Patricia Apt and Daniel Region share the honors as Amapola Gallery’s Featured Artists for May.

After a career in technology, native New Mexican Patricia Apt finds her artistic expression in wood turning.  She produces boxes, bowls and platters in a variety of woods, but specializes in turned wood miniatures.  These gracefully vessels are so tiny she must first create her own miniature tools to make their production possible.  Many of her forms are inspired by the pottery of the Pueblos.  The beauty of the wood is already standing in place.  As Patricia says, “Nature has already made something beautiful.  I do my best to reveal it.”

Photographer Daniel Region has spent a lifetime working in the arts, as an actor, director, graphic designer and as the Voice of the daytime drama As The World Turns.  Region’s subjects include portraits, objects, architecture, and the New Mexico landscapes featured here.  As he says, “It is the magical combination of shadow and light, that isolated moment of time and that breath of life, I work to capture.” Photography captures a scene or object in an instant of time, in this exhibit the beauty of New Mexico “standing still.”

The show will hang through May.
