The figure at the center of this installation is a representation of the prefrontal cortex, the central hub of decision making. It is also the center of conflict related to the artist’s neurodivergence: executive dysfunction. The interplay between all of the installations elements (found objects, metal castings, projection) is symbolic of the way an individual can mask their dysfunction, making it appear functional and cohesive on the surface while internally it consumes incredible amounts of energy.

“This installation serves as a sort of ‘mind-map.’ Over the past couple years I’ve come into the knowledge that I am multiply neurodivergent. It feels strange to learn this after having been living my life for over three decades but it has really helped me understand the parts of myself I always felt were in conflict with each other. This installation is a way of externalizing this internal conflict.”

Lindsay Stribling (she/they) lives and tinkers in Albuquerque, NM. Their work examines the power of ritual through the act of making bespoke objects they use in installations and performances. Lindsay is highly accomplished in the lost wax casting method, working primarily in bronze and silver. She also welds, experiments with analog film processes (35mm and Super 8) and creates ready-to-wear jewelry under the moniker Hexistential Dread. When approaching her work Lindsay considers themself equal parts artist, scientist and alchemist.
