TAI Modern presents the first U.S. solo show of Japanese lacquer artist Sasai Fumie. Sasai, an expert in the dry lacquer technique, is currently a professor at Kyoto City University of Arts. She has dedicated herself to refining her technique and design sensibility, imbuing her works with a sense of softness and friendliness. The soft-polished sheen, defined corners and folds, approachable shapes, and bright colors of her urushi lacquer pieces create a captivating world. Her forms, ranging from boxes shaped like realistic peaches and persimmons to abstract collaborations with bamboo artists, are sure to delight and enchant.
