Laughlin Safe Studios hosts their Inaugural Open House Event Thursday, May 8
Laughlin Safe Studios will host their inaugural open studios event Thursday, May 8, from 5:30 to 8 pm. The studios and the safe are located at 104 W San Francisco Street on the second floor of the Laughlin building just above Starbucks off the plaza. Come see the art, stay for the safe.
Currently, Laughlin Safe Studios consists of four separate spaces and is home to artists Todd Scalise, George Alexander, Frank Callozzo and the Rose Creative gallery. For this opening event, Alexander and Scalise will present new paintings, Callozzo will present paintings and folk futurism sculptures and Rose Creative will host new works by Thomas Breeze Marcus, Kylie Thunderhawk, Rhiannon Griego and Kay Nari.
Thunder Hawk is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in Rosebud, South Dakota, where she was raised and went to high school. Her art stems from her deep-seated desire to portray concepts beyond the confines of reality, translating her unique vision into tangible creations. Her colorful ledger work is inspired by the stories of her people as well as the three years she spent at the Oscar Howe Summer Art Institute, where she was taught by artists such as Angela Babby and Melanie Yazzie.
