In conjunction with Halfmoon’s exhibition Flags of Our Mothers, The Contemporary Austin is screening the documentary Missing From Fire Trail Road. The film centers on the case of Mary Ellen Johnson-Davis, a young Native American woman who disappeared in 2020. Her story sheds light on the ongoing and continuously unsolved disappearances of Indigenous women across the United States, opening up a broader conversation about the violence and intergenerational trauma suffered on Native American reservations.
Ahead of the film, we are grateful to be joined by Medicine Wheel Rider Jimmy Ochoa Morales. Medicine Wheel Ride is a women-led annual motorcycle ride advocating for the end of violence to Indigenous women and relatives by sharing in ceremony and storytelling with families across the country. Following this introduction, we will screen We Ride For Her, a documentary short film that follows Ochoa and fellow sisters on their ride in 2023.
