Please join us at J. Peeler Howell Fine Art Thursday, October 2, at 6:00 pm for an Artist Talk with Dawn Waters Baker as she discusses her current exhibition, Petrichor.
Petrichor is Dawn Waters Baker’s first solo exhibition at J. Peeler Howell Fine Art. Through layering thin oil glazes, Dawn translates the emotional and spiritual essence of nature into landscapes. Water, earth, atmosphere, and sky become veiled glimpses into a deeper reality. Her work bridges tradition and contemporary, the physical and spiritual. Her upbringing in the Philippines, marked by both beauty and hardship, informs her exploration of the world’s inherent tension: light and dark, glory and earthliness.
“Petrichor is that pleasant smell right before the 1st rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.
We sit between the dry and the coming rain. I smell it in the air. I love that smell. Like a place I know.
Bless us, Lord, this day with vision
May this place be a sacred place
A telling place
Where heaven and earth meet.” – Dawn Waters Baker
