El Paso Museum of Art, in partnership with PROArtes México, is proud to present Coyotek, a solo exhibition by nationally and internationally celebrated Mexican-American artist Jorge Rojas. The museum will host an opening reception Friday, February 28, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Coyotek showcases Rojas’s diverse artistic practice, featuring a selection of his work, including photography, performance videos, and installations created over the past two decades. His work aims to build bridges of understanding between cultures, fostering a flow and exchange of ideas that resonate with people from all walks of life.
The title, Coyotek, is a playful neologism blending the words coyote and technology to reflect an identity and aesthetic woven from Rojas’s interest in borders and immigration policy through his multicultural immigrant experience.
While colloquially, a coyote is a guide for immigrants across the Mexico–US border, Rojas’s work is motivated by bridging ideas and concepts across cultures. Spiritual histories, abuses of power, interpretations of ancient rites, Indigenous knowledge, and human interconnectedness are all inspirations. Through this work, Rojas aims to build bridges of understanding between cultures, fostering a flow and exchange of ideas that resonates with people worldwide.
