Parallel Studios presents the 15th edition of its celebrated annual art and technology festival, CURRENTS 2024. Attendees can join the ten-day event at El Museo Cultural in Santa Fe’s bustling Railyard arts district from June 14 to June 23, 2024, where they will discover an eclectic array of new-media and electronic arts. This year’s festival features sixty-five works crafted by ninety-seven talented individual and collaborating artists. Media include interactive installations, VR/AR/XR, AI/artist collaborations, robotics/kinetic/electro-mechanical objects, multimedia performance, digitally generated objects, wearables, experimental video and animation, and outdoor installations and projections.
The opening weekend will include multimedia performances, a panel discussion about AI, and engaging artist talks. At El Museo, attendees will experience a range of multimedia performances, including audiovisual displays, AI and theater, real-time VR painting, and an immersive microscopic performance. The festivities will kick off with a partner event at the Historic Santa Fe Foundation, featuring a cello and electronics performance by Colin Stokes.
The AI panel will showcase four of this year’s artists in a discussion moderated by Alice Scope, a new-media art curator and researcher from Los Angeles. Together, they will examine the entanglement between AI and bodies, and its impact on identity, behavior, and social manifestations.
