Add stunning desert landscapes, spacious skies, diverse urban centers, and world-class arts institutions, and you have found yourself primed for creative output. All you need is the space and time to get to work—that’s where this list of residencies comes in.
If there is a common thread across these opportunities, it’s that dedicated, uninterrupted time for creative work is a common core value, and tight restrictions or weighty expectations are rarely, if ever, applied. Amerind Museum Emerging Artist in Residence
Dragoon, Arizona
Located in the southeast corner of the state, the Amerind Museum is dedicated to art, history, and archaeology, with a particular focus on Native American cultures and Western art. The museum is situated within the Texas Canyon Nature Preserve, where you can walk trails that wind through incredible boulder formations. The artist residency is open to Indigenous artists in the early phase of their artistic careers.

Grand Canyon Conservancy Artist in Residence
Grand Canyon National Park
Create work on the Grand Canyon’s South Rim with world-class views while serving the Park’s educational goals, including “inclusive storytelling and climate change.”

Application fee: $25.
Housing: Private 1,100-square-foot second-floor apartment.
Stipend: $750 stipend per week.

Made in Wickenburg Artist Residency Program
Wickenburg, Arizona
The Made in Wickenburg residency, which takes place at a historic dude ranch just outside of Phoenix, is geared toward performing arts companies and collaborative projects, such as dance ensembles and theater groups.

Housing: Companies, including artists, managers, and associated production staff of up to twenty-five people are provided guest rooms, daily housekeeping, three meals a day in a social setting, rehearsal space, and ranch amenities.

Art 145 Artist Residency
Superior, Arizona
Settle into a comfortable studio sixty miles east of Phoenix in the mountains of Tonto National Forest at Art 145, a community art center with public studio space, art classes, and a residency program. Conveniently located within walking distance to a weekly farmer’s market, coffee shops, restaurants, hiking, community fun (like karaoke), and more.

Housing: One-bedroom apartment provided for a fee, requires a $50 deposit, $125 per night.
Stipend: Select resident artists receive an unspecified stipend amount for tools and materials.

Arizona State Parks Artist Residency Program
various State Park locations
As a partnership between the Arizona Commission on the Arts and Arizona State Parks and Trails, previous residencies have included Oracle State Park in Pinal County (north of Tucson) in 2024, and Patagonia Lake State Park near the U.S.-Mexico border in 2025. Artists took up residence in state park cabins, making work while immersed in nature for up to two weeks. While details about future State Park residencies are not yet available, watch the Arizona Commission on the Arts for further information.
ASU Art Museum Artist Residency
Tempe, Arizona
This by-invitation program invites artists to engage with the museum staff, university faculty, and other institutional partners within ASU’s metro-Phoenix orbit, and artists are encouraged to make use of the university’s vast resources, especially the museum’s collections. The museum invites three to five artists per year for variable terms.
CALA Alliance Residencias Artísticas
Phoenix
CALA Alliance (Celebración Artística de las Américas) is dedicated to Latinx artists and arts organizations, offering residencies, commissions, workshops, and other public programming that focuses on artists of the Latin American diaspora. Each Residencias Artística includes one Arizona-based artist (by open call), one national artist (by invitation), and one international exchange artist (by open call) in coordination with partner organizations in Latin America or the Caribbean.

Catalyst Creative Collective Artist-in-Residence Program

Located within the Tucson Mall, Catalyst Arts & Maker Space is a program of the Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance, and includes more than 14,000 square feet of versatile space, providing a home for artists, creatives, educators, and other organizations. Open to local Tucson-area artists, giving them space to create in an open studio environment, with opportunities for public engagement.

Halstead Jewelry Residency Program
Prescott, Arizona
This one is especially dedicated to jewelry artists and educators! Halstead Jewelry Supply has been a wholesale supplier for jewelers for about fifty years and actively invests in up-and-coming jewelers and small jewelry businesses through their grant and residency programs.

Housing: Not provided. Artists have access to the Halstead Headquarters shared jewelry studio, all tools and equipment, and a private office space.
Stipend: $250 supply stipend to spend with Halstead on jewelry-making supplies.

The Land With No Name Sanctuary Artist Residency Program
Tucson
The LWNN residency program is a choose-your-own-adventure invitation to artists, musicians, performers, and writers to get close to the land and explore your creative practice in the high desert grasslands just south of Tucson.

Montezuma Castle National Monument Artist-in-Residence Program
National Park Service Art in the Parks / Yavapai County, Arizona
Situated in the lush Verde Valley just south of Sedona, Montezuma Castle is one of the U.S.’s first designated National Monuments, and preserves a five-story cliff dwelling of the Sinagua people overlooking Beaver Creek. As part of the National Park Service Art in the Parks, artists are expected to donate one original artwork from their residency to the National Park Service. Namingha Institute Master Class
Museum of Northern Arizona / Flagstaff
During this two-week residency held in the spring, students participate in master classes with noted Indigenous artists Dan and Arlo Namingha (both Tewa-Hopi), tour the museum’s collections, and soak in the visual splendors of the Colorado Plateau on the museum’s 200-acre research campus.

Saguaro National Park Artist Residency
National Parks Arts Foundation / Pima County
Situated across two segments that flank the city of Tucson, Saguaro National Park is noted for its namesake: the towering and iconic saguaro cactus. First established in 1933, the park is an ecological marvel, home to more than 1,200 plant species and a host of desert fauna, and is rooted in the history of the Akimel O’odham and Tohono O’odham tribes, and other Indigenous people.

Visiting Artist Residency at the MIX Center
Arizona State University / Tempe, Arizona
The ASU Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center Visiting Artist Residency invites new media artists to spend six weeks working on experimental, immersive projects, including immersive XR, AI, interactive experiences, games, and performance. Residents can take advantage of the MIX Center’s resources, including the Enhanced Immersion Studio (a four-story, 3,200-square-foot immersive projection with fifty-five-channel spatial audio array programming capability) a robotics lab, and more.
