Southwest Contemporary is pleased to announce an open call for art to be featured in the second annual “12 New Mexico Artists to Know Now” publication and group exhibition. Artists living and working in New Mexico are welcome to submit artwork in any medium.

Southwest Contemporary is the leading resource for contemporary arts in New Mexico. We are passionate about providing opportunities and visibility to emerging and established artists. This annual artists’ issue will share the most compelling, vibrant contemporary art being made in our state with our readers and connect New Mexico artists to a larger audience.
Guest Juror
Andrew Conners, Director of the Albuquerque Museum.
Andrew Connors is Director of the Albuquerque Museum where he previously served as Curator of Art from 2009 through 2018. Formerly he was Chair of the Visual Arts Department at Albuquerque Academy (2006-09), Senior Curator at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque (1999-2006), and Associate Curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (1984-1999) where he developed collections and exhibitions on Hispanic, Latino, Native American, and Folk Art. He studied Art History and Architecture at Yale University and did his graduate work in Folklore and American Studies at George Washington University. He has curated dozens of exhibitions primarily in the areas of United States Latino Art, Colonial Art from Puerto Rico, Contemporary art, and Graffiti.
Selected Artists Receive
The Magazine: Selected artists will receive a 2-page spread in The Magazine’s February-March 2020 issue including a brief article, images of artworks, and web/social media links. Each selected artist will also be featured on Southwest Contemporary’s website.
The Exhibition: All selected artists will also be invited to participate in a group exhibition in Santa Fe opening on Friday, February 28, 2020. The exhibition is sponsored by form & concept gallery and Maestro Financial Partners.
Eligibility
Artists 18 and older are welcome to submit with artworks in any medium. Artists must reside in New Mexico at least six months out of the year.
Submission fee: $5.00 (non-refundable).
Deadline: November 15, 2019.
