Twenty-three artists—one electrifying night. From Claire Campbell Park’s luminous weavings to Alex Macias’s bold borderlands portraiture, Steinfeld Gallery & Studios’ new exhibition includes work by some of the most inventive artists of Southern Arizona.

Now in its second year, the landmark group exhibition curated by regional arts advocate Paul Gold is the anchor event of Tucson’s First Saturday Artwalk—reflecting a diverse roster of artists whose practices foster mastery of their artistic voice, while also contributing to broader conversations.
“This exhibition is an annual love letter to Tucson’s artists, showcasing our deep stable of remarkable talent; an intrinsically Tucson event to enjoy, year after year,” says Gold.
The setting matters as much as the roster: the warehouse’s brick walls, heavy timber posts, and worn plank floors give the gallery a character all its own. “This 1907 building carries a history that few spaces in the city can match,” says Chris Leighton, director of Steinfeld Gallery. “A Gorgeous Excitement is exactly the kind of show this space was built for, filling one of downtown Tucson’s most distinctive venues with contemporary art that is as eclectic as the city itself.”
That eclecticism runs through the work of the twenty-three featured artists. David Adix builds quiet, architectural compositions from torn paper, threading wiry gestural line through fields of color. Fiber artist Claire Campbell Park, whose woven Koi I (1989) glows like a desert sky at dusk, brings decades of mastery in linen, cotton, and metallic thread. Alex Macias contributes bold figurative painting rooted in borderlands identity; Judith Stewart’s ceramic figure Reflection (2026) pairs a high-fired torso with annealed glass in a meditation on the body and its double; and Rina Yoon’s photo engraving Earth Body 27 (2011) dissolves the human form into strands of light against velvet black.
A Gorgeous Excitement 2026 opens Saturday, October 3, 4-8 pm, with food, music, and the First Saturday Artwalk drawing a broad cross-section of Tucson into the building. The exhibition continues with Saturday gallery hours and weekly artist talks, October 10-31, 12-4 pm; a closing reception on Saturday, November 7, 4-8 pm; and a final gallery day and artist talk on Saturday, November 14, 12-4 pm. This event includes an installation by Tucson artist, Athena Solan Apodaca. Her artwork will be presented in the loft space above the exhibition. All events are free and open to the public.
